It had been eleven years since the fall of the treaty and peace among the demon races. Life since the fall of the Shadow Realm, their old home, had been hard. The wolf pack had moved out of the Shadow Realm, in hopes to live in a new world. The escape from the shadow realm had dwindled their numbers, when they had fled to the mirror world of their old home, Earth. With some help and a portal the pack had appeared in the forest. By the time they could escape, nine years finally got them freedom from the demon world. There was very little trouble on earth for them, other than a few big cats known as cougars, and grizzly bears. The pack had lived off both small and big game, during hard times they ate roots and other edible vegetation.
The sun had started just started to poke out over the mountains, blue eyes scanned forest, his white ears perked forward as he listened around him. The small sound of something moving was soft and almost quiet. The movement at the corner of his vision made his head turn towards it slowly, blue eyes narrowed as he looked through the shadows of the trees. Hidden within the shadows a good distance away was a light brown deer had been eating grass. Keeping low, he moved towards it, watching it as it’s head jerked u p listening, the wolf paused in mid step. The deer then darted, something had spooked it, and the wolf gave chase. Growling as he started to gain on it, it’s weaving and jumping only made the chase more fun. The wolf then leaped with his hind legs, jumping onto the deer he quickly sank his sharp teeth into its neck. His ears pricked forward unsure if he had heard something else around him. His blue eyes narrowed as he scanned the shadows of the forest. Sniffing at the air, unable to smell anything close by he then turned towards the mountains heading for home.
The wolves had used the mountains as home, digging deep and making room for the growing pack. There was no need to hide in the mountains walls, humans didn’t come so far, not normally. As white fur stained with fresh blood emerged from the forest with the deer in his mouth. His blue eyes looked over the flourishing pack before him.
Smoke from a fire caught his blue eyes, watching the figures sitting around it talking. Stopping where the forest thinned out making room for the large mountain they lived on, he watched as a woman got to their feet.
Walking towards the white wolf, a small smile on her lips, her feet were light on the ground, her gold eyes didn’t leave the wolf’s as she stopped in front of him. Arms crossed as she tried to look intimidating, the wolf dropped the kill and gave her a wolfish grin. Glaring at the wolf she shook her head.
“Do you have to keep hunting alone? You should at least bring Ray with you,” her gold eyes watched him as the soft breeze blew her hair gently into her face. She was wearing a white shirt and blue jean pants, her hair fell to her shoulder blades. Her arms still crossed over her chest, glancing back towards the rest of the pack to see if she could spot Ray.
When she looked back the white wolf was gone replaced with a man with white hair, blue eyes, wearing a black t-shirt and blue jean pants, but on his lips was still the wolfish grin.Shaking her head her head she looked to the deer, “At least you were able to find something. Is the forest still safe?”
“The forest is quiet, though I can’t say for sure if safe. I may take Ray and scout a little later,” closing the gap between then, he put an arm around her and kissed her soft lips, “Any news from the other packs?”
“Nothing really new, the deer have grown in population which means we will have a run in with the cougars and bears eventually heading into our territory for them,” she replied after kissing him back. Her gold eyes looked back into his as she pulled away from him, “If you’re looking for Ray, check the outskirts of the camp. You can’t miss him, chances are he’s about to head off into the forest soon.”
“Thank you Kira,” leaving her with the kill he headed towards the edge of their home. His blue eyes in search of the person he was looking for.
The male had reddish brown hair, and grey blue eyes as they turned to face the white haired male that approached him. “I wasn’t expecting you to be back so soon, did something happen on your hunt?”
“I can’t say for sure,” shaking his head, his blue eyes looked into the male’s grey blue eyes. The man before him wore a black shirt and blue jean pants. Their hair was a mess as if the wolf had just gotten out of bed. The male had then looked back towards the forest, “Do you feel it too?”
“Yeah, its an uneasiness,” he shifted on his feet uncomfortable before looking back to the alpha, “Have you heard the rumors?”
“There are many on the wind, to which do you mean?” He walked to the male’s side and looked out into the forest, “There seems to be something out there. Care to join me for a run Ray?”
“A run does sound good,” his muscles tensed as he looked back towards the white haired male, “as for the rumors, I am talking about the one of the prince.”
“I have heard that rumor, though I thought he was dead,” his blue eyes narrowed before looking to Ray, “Didn't they find his body and discovered a Rohza had killed him?”
“That is the rumor, but I have heard the young prince is very much alive and has been seen in this world we are in,” Ray watched the strong male, their expression was blank, “Do you think we will run into him?”
“If so, let’s hope he’ll be more like his parents. If he’s just like the rest of these blood suckers, he’ll have a fight on his hands,” he growled, his hands clenched into fists as he looked towards the pack, “There is nowhere for us to go, not where we can live freely.”
“There is more too though, the other part of the rumor is that he had a fiance picked out by his parents. They say he had killed her to gain more power, and that’s why he’s able to control the portals between our world and this one,” Ray shivered at the thought as he looked back towards the alpha, “Do you really think he would have done it?”
“Vampires do stupid things,” closing his eyes, he sniffed the air. There was nothing on the wind that suggested anything was close by, he then opened his blue eyes and looked back towards Ray, “We can only hope that what we hear is truly only rumors to get the demons riled up on his return. Give them false hope or something, or cause a war. It’s best we stay out of it.”
“Yeah, come let's patrol the area before it gets much later. Before we know lunch will be done before we even start,” Ray replied with a small smile, placing a hand on their shoulder, “When we return the food might be cold.” He was half joking as he watching watched his alpha.
Nodding to Ray, he gave the wolf a small smile back, “Let's hope it’s just rumor and that it stays just that.” Then he transitioned into his white wolf, shaking his white fur before looking to Ray. Giving the wolf a sharp toothed grin, he then took off into the forest.
It wasn’t long before he heard the other wolf behind him. He didn’t have to look to see if it really was Ray, he knew the wolf’s scent. The reddish brown wolf soon ran at his side, looking on ahead. Looking to the shadows of the forest, he growled softly feeling like something was watching them. There was no scent in the air, the wind didn’t bring anything new with it either. He glanced to Ray who seemed to have felt it too.
‘Hopefully the rumors are false, we have a lot going on as it is,’ his blue eyes narrowed as he halted on the edge of their territory. He looked out into the the dim shadows, the sun had made it’s pull away from the mountains that tried to conceal it. Then without warning the white wolf transitioned back into his human form. A chill ran down his spine as he listened closely around them.
“Storm?” Ray looked to his alpha worried something had happened, “What is it?”
“Listen close to the wind, what do you hear?” Storm glanced to Ray who had then started to listen. The sound Storm had heard was faint, but he was able to hear it. He tensed as Ray caught the sound as well, he had hoped he had misheard.
“The other pack seems to want to see you,” Ray whispered as if they were already upon them, “What could they want?”
“Territory expansion rights?” Was his best guess as he shrugged his shoulders, his blue eyes narrowed at the trees as he thought he had seen movement. Storm knew the wind would have carried his scent towards the other wolf pack. “They will be here in seconds, I am sure.” The howl on the wind had that he had heard had died and the forest was quiet.
The pitter patter of wolf paws coming towards them. Storm and Ray made sure they stood on their territory, Storm’s blue eyes watched as the wolves stopped a few feet from them. The wolf pack’s leader was not among them, but that didn’t keep Storm from having a protective stance in case they challenged him. The reddish brown wolf at his side shifted on his paws watching the four brown wolves before him. Storm’s attention wasn’t on the four brown wolves before him, he was waiting for the alpha to make an appearance. The leader was never far behind when it came to territory being invaded.
A man soon appeared behind the four brown wolves, pushing past them caused them to cower. The man had light brown hair and green-brown eyes. They wore a red and gray checkered button up shirt, though the shirt wasn’t buttoned revealing the alpha’s muscular chest, and matched with blue jean pants. He looked from Storm to Ray and then back to the alpha. “I wasn’t sure you’d gotten my call.”
“It’s hard to miss it on the wind,” Storm replied watching them closely, “What brings this unexpected call?”
“Have you heard from the other packs? What they are saying?” His eyes shifted to the forest around them, “There is an uneasiness to the forest. I am sure you feel it too. The others reported something hiding in shadows, and slaughtering the packs at night. Only two so far have been killed, and those packs weren’t small. We don’t know what it is, only that it has most likely come from the place we have all fled from.”
“Is it the vampires again?” Storm growled, he had hoped to put his pack at rest and not have to worry about the demons again. But that didn’t seem to be the case anymore, the demons had found a way to track them to this world. His blue eyes narrowed, ‘This isn’t good…’
“We aren’t sure, there is no drained blood, only our kind slaughtered,” his green-brown eyes looked to Storm, “Whatever it is, it’s coming and killing us. Thought I would warn all the packs I can.”
“Thank you,” Storm then looked to Ray, “Let’s go back home.”
“Be careful Storm, your pack is the smallest. It won’t put up a fight, not without you anyway,” he called before turning away and heading back into the forest. The four wolves looked to Ray and Storm before slowly following after their alpha.
“Can we trust him?” Ray asked when they were clear in their home territory.
“I am not sure, let’s hope it won’t come near us,” Storm glanced to him before he looked towards the looming mountains, “Lunch should be ready, and if we are lucky it won’t be cold.”

“Something is attacking the packs?” Kira’s golden eyes were wide with shock. ‘What could be killing off the packs? And so easily?’ The others had started talking amongst themselves within the main room of the cave. Storm had demanded a meeting over what he had heard from the other packs. Kira looked to Storm worried on what they would do. “We can't leave, and staying here we may be killed or not get far at all if we try to run….”
“Quiet please,” Storm’s blue eyes looked to his frightened pack mates. He had mauled around in his head on what he was going to say, since he had first found out. “We can't run or hide, we can only stay and fight. Ray, I want your best guards with you to guard the entrance. By dusk everyone is to get into the mountain. Hunting will only happen when the sun is high and casts little shadow between here and the trees. I'll take our best trackers tomorrow to see if we can find what we are facing.”
“What if it's the vampires or something else? We are too small to take on so many,” one had said among the pack, “Can't we call on alliance?”
“There are no packs to call upon, we are alone in this battle. We don’t have allies in this world, there is no one that will help us face a demon…” Storm looked to the pack with sadness in his eyes, “Those days have died long ago when the realm had fallen. We fight and live for our pack, no one else.”
“Your alpha has spoken trust that he will do everything to keep us safe,” she watched the morning crowd go silent as she gave a small smile to Storm, “I know you have a plan of some kind.”
The wolves had retreated to their sleeping chambers within the mountain. Blue eyes watched Ray and a few others head to the opening. Looking to Kira, a small smile came to his lips as he out an arm around her. “A plan that you may not like,” he laughed as he kissed her hand, “But it's the safest way I know right now.”
“Oh?” She laughed as the alpha’s strong arms brought down onto his lap, “And what plan may this be?” Her brown eye brow raised looking to him quizzically.
“We can track it, or I’ll be the only one allowed to hunt. We don't know what is trying to kill the packs off, my guess is that it's a vampire. I don't know why they would attack after waiting so long,” holding her close, Storm closed his eyes, breathing in her scent that was mixed with smoke, dirt and forest.
Putting her head to the alpha’s chest, Kira listened to his heartbeat, closing her eyes as Storm held her close. “Please be safe,” her golden eyes looked up to him, “If demons have found a way to come here, we won't be the only ones in danger.”
“I know,” Storm smiled sadly to her, taking her hand into his and putting it to his cheek, “Let's not think about that now, let's try and rest while we can.” He then gave her a grin before picking her up in his arms and headed down one of the many tunnels towards his sleeping chambers.
~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~
Shifting on the furs, blue eyes slowly opened as he sat up. Rubbing the sleep from his eyes he looked around the cave. The cave was small, and the bed made of furs from animals they had hunted. Looking to his side to the sleeping brown haired woman. Storm moved their hair out of their face before getting up and stretching. Then quietly he headed out of the room towards the main entrance to the mountain. The reddish brown haired wolf was still in the entrance as colored started to come to the sky outside.
“Anything happen?” Storm asked looking out into the forest. All had seemed peaceful, and the night critters were still chattering their song as the sun slowly rose.
“All has been quiet, we'll besides the normal creatures of the night,” Ray replied looking to Storm, “Couldn't sleep?”
“No, not really,” shaking his head he looked back to Ray, “Too many nightmares.”
“Did you want me to come with you, to find out what we may be facing?” His grey blue eyes watching Storm, there was a hint to Storm’s moodiness the alpha’s eyes. He looked back to the tunnel, the rest of the pack wasn't up yet.
“I'll need you to stay here, I don't plan to be gone long. I'll be back by sun down,” Storm looked back to the forest as the warriors returned from patrolling the territory. There was nothing to report as they headed inside to rest up for the next night. “You should get a little rest, I'll find you when I return.” Not looking to the wolf next to him, Storm then headed off into the forest before changing into his white wolf form.
Shaking his fur his blue eyes scanned the forest as a snarl scared his throat, he sniffed at the air as he then took off towards the border of their territory. Leaping over fallen trees, hearing small animals run away as they hear him coming, his mind was only on one thing. Getting closers to the territory border, Storm skidded to a halt and howled into the navy blue sky. The stars had faded out of site, and there was now a small sliver of pink in the sky. Is ears pricked forward listening for a sound, his paws shifted on the ground, waiting. Unsure if they had heard his howl, he was tempted to howl again when his hearing picked up the sound of a faint howl.
Picking up the faint scent, Storm then ran into enemy territory, he wasn't going to wait on the alpha. He skidded to a halt as four brown wolves came onto his path. His hair raised on the back of his neck, challenging them to attack. Blue eyes looked from one to the other as a growl came from behind the four before him. Watching the black wolf approach him, Storm backed up, his blue eyes not leaving the alpha’s.
“Why are you here Storm?” His golden eyes watched the white wolf closely, “Retreat to your territory, you don't belong here.”
“I have questions that need answering, and it's on the other side of your borders. Will you not grant me passage? I'm sure you are just as curious as to what is attacking us. Am I wrong Damarious?”
“That doesn't explain why you are in our territory, and not writing in yours,” he snarled at him, his stance was tense as he contemplated on taking on Storm. All instinct told him to run the wolf off his territory. He flicked his tail annoyed, “Today is your only free pass, as we would like to know what is going on.” He looked to his four warriors, “Go back and wait for me with the others.” Not waiting on them to run off, he then turned and headed towards the other side of his territory.
“Thank you,” watching the black wolf, Storm slowly followed after them.
The walk was quiet, and by the time they reached the other side it was early afternoon. The area smelt of death as they approached, Storm wrinkled his nose as he looked to the black wolf. They stopped at the edge of the black werewolf’s territory.
“We searched the area, there is only one set of footprints we could make out. Whatever attacked them, was one person,” he glanced towards Storm, “We aren't sure what had yet. The bodies have been buried though further into their territory…”
“One being? How is that possible?” Storm looked over the field, slowly moving through the blood soaked ground. Their wasn't much evidence of a struggle, no claw marks in the earth from missed attacks. “Did they know their attacker?”
“We aren't sure, it seemed to have caught them all off guard. What we do know is what attacked them, had long nails. Almost all of the pack members had them, as well as stab wounds. With us so close to them, we didn't hear the howls or screams,” his gold eyes watched Storm curiously, “What do you think it is?”
“A demon, and if I'm right we aren't it's only target. If they get to the cities or towns, humans will know of our existence,” Storm replied looking towards Damarious, he shook his head as he tried to sniff the place for any scent. Unable to get any good scent he turned to the black werewolf, “I'll head home, but I'm sure this thing is far from done.”
“If it's a demon, it would be the strongest one I have faced. Good luck to you and your pack, I need to get back to mine,” Damarious turned and headed further into his territory leaving Storm with the smell of death.
By mid evening, Storm made it back home in time of the setting sun. He looked to Ray who stood in the caves entrance, walking up to him he was about to pass him. The werewolf put a hand on his shoulder, his grey eyes watched Storm. Looking to the wolf, he didn't remember a time when fear entered Ray's eyes as it did now.
“What happened while I was gone?” Storm tried to keep the anger out of his voice, regretting to leave when he should have staid.
“A wolf came by looking for you, they didn't say what they had wanted. It's no one that we know, and they smelled of demon and werewolf. Storm, we are in trouble,” Ray tried to remain calm, clenching his hands into fists to keep from shaking.
Storm's blue eyes didn't miss beat as he watched Ray try to get a hold of himself. For Ray to be shaken up, his eyes narrowed looking behind him. The forest had no scent of a werewolf or demon when he had returned. “What did they want?”
“I don't know, they wouldn't tell me. Only that they wish to talk to you tomorrow night, to the east of the mountain. They said they'd be waiting and to come alone, I don't like it,” shaking his head Ray looked into the forest, “What if it's a trap? Storm we can't trust them.”
“If I don't, and it is the one doing all this. If I leave for a hunt, or we are off guard, we will die,” Storm growled, there wasn't much to their pack, their numbers had been small since the retreat from mirror world. “I have no choice but to meet them, to keep our pack safe.”
“Storm, what if this thing is attacking those with the old treaty? That formed the old alliance with the vampires that held up its laws,” Ray shivered at the thought watching Storm, “We would be on that hit list as well as the other packs and demons.
“Think you're thinking too much into this, it could just be a bloodthirsty demon enjoying the blood it soils. It's only one demon doing this. I think if it was the same demons who killed off the royals, there would be more than one,” looking to Ray he put a hand onto their shoulder, “Everything will work out we'll conquer this thing, flourish and see the next generation live hopefully peaceful lives.”
“I hope you're right,” Ray replied as he leaned against the cave wall, his eyes closed as he tried to calm his nerves.
Taking his hand off the werewolf, Storm headed into the mountain. He had been starving moments before Ray told him the news, now he wasn't feeling so hungry. Looking around he wasn't sure where Kira would be, he was sure she was mad at him for leaving her before she woke. Running a hand through his white hair he paused in the tunnels trying to decide which way to go. He felt exhausted from his day of running and trying to find what had attacked the other pack, only to come back empty handed.
Deciding on sleep, he headed left towards his chambers. His head throbbing from thinking on the attacks, on what to do, what was after them. There were too many questions with no answers, he could only hope Ray was wrong, that the attacks were random. Making his way to his chambers he stopped at the entrance looking to Kira who was sitting on the bed.
“Your back, you could have said something before leaving. What if you didn't return?” Her golden eyes bored into Storm, her arms were crossed over her chest. “Do you ever think before acting?”
“I was thinking on the pack, I'm sorry,” Storm slowly entered the room watching the mad wolf. He couldn't blame her, with all that was going on she must have been worried. “I didn't find much out either. If anything I should have stayed here.”
“And face that wolf that came by? I'm glad you weren't here for that,” she shivered as she stood up from the bed and walked over to Storm, “I just want things how they used to be, safe and we didn't have to worry about demons…” Wrapping her arms around Storm, she closed her eyes. Glad he was alright, and the pack was safe for sometime. Feeling Storm put his arms around her, she looked up at him and kissed his lips gently. “Next time you leave without warning I'm coming after you.”
“I'm sorry,” he kissed her back as he held her close to him, “Next time I'll wake you. Tomorrow I hunt though so I may be up early.”
“It doesn't matter you better wake me,” glaring at him as she pulled away, “I'm sure you're here to rest, so get some sleep. I'll bring you food when it's ready.”
“Thank you, love you Kira, I didn't mean to make you worry…” making his way to the bed he sat down and watched Kira go, shaking his head he then laid down. Looking up at the rocky jagged ceiling, his blue eyes narrowed, ‘What if this thing has been watching us?’ Growling, he turned over facing the cave wall as he tried to force himself to rest.
~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~
By early morning, Storm didn't remember much of the night when he returned. Kira had made sure he had eaten, and then he had gone back to sleep. Shaking his head feeling groggy, he looked to the sleeping wolf next to him. Shaking her gently he then lowered his head to her ear.
“For someone who wishes for me to wake them. You don't wake up easily,” he laughed in their ear feeling them move and face him. Sleepy golden eyes looked up at him, “Go back to sleep, I'm only hunting for breakfast and will be back when you wake.”
“You better,” she said still groggy as she put a hand to her cheek, “Be careful love.”
“Always,” he laughed a little kissing her forehead, “Try and get some sleep.” Letting go of her hand, he got up and got dressed before heading out into the cool air.
Ray had been standing guard again, his grey blue eyes looking to him. The werewolf didn't seem to be getting a whole lot of sleep, which worried Storm. The night had been quiet with still nothing to report, nodding to Ray, giving the werewolf a small smile. Then without a word he headed out into the forest, before changing into his white wolf.
Sniffing the air he tried to smell for the demon mixed werewolf, but there was no scent around their home. Whatever had come to them yesterday was long gone, or it simply disappeared. Storm shook his head, clearing his mind as he needed to focus. He needed to bring back food for the pack, ‘I shouldn't be gone long, if it is watching us…’
The faint smell of deer came to him off the wind. Instinct took over as he quietly headed towards it, crouching low as not to be spotted as he looked around for the deer. It didn't take him long to hunt it down, chasing was always the fun part as he ran after the startled deer. Leaping over fallen trees, and avoiding tree roots, he leapt in front of the deer, snarling he pounced on the deer sinking his sharp teeth into its neck. He then started to drag it back towards the mountain.
Walking out of the forest, he looked to the mountain they lived in. He had thought about moving to the city, blend in with the humans, but it would be a hard life. They wouldn't understand changing into their wolf state would scare humans, and fear was often a bad enemy when it came to humans. Walking to the entrance Storm changed back to his human form, holding the heavy deer in his arms.
“Want help with that?” Ray asked watching Storm in the entrance, he looked to the clouded sky. A small frown came to his lips as he looked into the cave, “It's going to rain tonight..”
“Rain is good to have,” Storm mumbled as he headed inside with the deer. Heading down one of the tunnels to the cooking and skinning. Dropping off the fresh meat, he then headed back towards Ray and leaned against the cave's mouth.
“You okay?” Ray looked to the alpha worried that the werewolf might be exhausted.
“I've been doing a lot of thinking, with this new threat,” Storm replied shaking his head, “We may have no choice but to live among humans, I didn't want it to come to that.”
“Storm?” A little shocked to hear the alpha speak of leaving the forest behind, and living with humans, “You want us to-”
“Do we have a choice? After tonight, take them to the city blend in with humans and live. I don't like it, but how else can we survive?” His hands into fists as he looked to the sky, “We will be lucky this thing doesn't white us out.”
“As you wish,” Ray whispered looking back to the forest, “Tonight you meet up with the wolf, and tomorrow we leave for the city.”
“Prepare them now,” Storm said gloomily, he didn't want to go into the world of humans. They were worse than the demons in their realm. Always hating what they don't understand.
Pressing off the rock he had been leaning against, Ray then headed into the cave to get the pack ready. Hearing the soft echo of his feet bouncing off the walls. He trusted his alpha, but he didn't like what was to come. Leaving Storm to himself, Ray had spread the word.
Closing his eyes Storm tried to block the sounds around him. Anger surged through him as he wanted to kill the demon causing them trouble. If the pack was at full strength, he was sure he wouldn't have to worry. ‘It's almost like they know who to target, Damarious’ pack is strong. I doubt they will get attacked, they are targeting the weak packs. But why?’ Storm growled and his eyes shot open in time to see Kira approach him. He shifted on his feet looking to the forest.
“Storm?” Her voice was sweet, full of concern in just one word.
The one word from her was all it took to calm his anger, blue eyes looked into her gold ones. A small sad smile tugged at his lips as he moved to her side, wrapping his arms around her. Storm watched her quietly, running a hand through her brown hair.
“Is it true, what Ray said?” we are going to live among the humans?” Her voice trembled at the thought as she watched Storm.
“I don't know what we are facing and tonight I see the wolf. We aren't safe here, we need to leave and the only safe place for us are the humans and their cities. If there was another way to keep us safe, don't you think I would have done it?” Storm tried to keep his anger out of his voice as he kept her close to him.
“The others don't like it, I don't like it,” she pouted as he looked up into Storms ice blue eyes with a sad smile, But I know it'll keep us safe.”
“More importantly you safe, you are my world,” Storm smiled to her as he kissed her forehead, “It won't be long before I meet up with the wolf, stay safe until I return.”
“Promise you'll come back,” she pulled away from him, her eyes were tearing up.
“You know I won't be gone long,” Storm smiled before nodding, “I'll be back as fast as possible, promise.”
Giving a small nod, Kira then headed back into the cave. Leaving the alpha alone, standing in the entrance. Watching her go was hard, he wanted nothing more than to cuddle with her near the fire. Enjoying their time together, his blue eyes lingered in the darkness of the cave before looking back to the forest.
Small drops had started to fall, before it had soon down poured. The sky had started to get dark making it appear as though it was dusk. It was hard to tell where the sun was located in the sky. Lightning flashed across the clouds lighting up the bit of darkness caused by the clouds. Storm's blue eyes had caught a glimpse of something among the tree line, with no one else watching the entrance Storm stayed put. A loud growl came to his throat not looking back to the cave, Storm immediately transformed into the white wolf. Hair raised and still growling he lifted his head to the sky and howled, hoping to get Ray’s attention at least.
The thunder overhead was loud, and it was only moments later lightning flashed the sk, whatever was hidden among the trees was gone. Hearing footsteps behind him. Storm turned his head, “Watch this entrance, let no one in but me.” He didn't wait for an answer from Ray as he then darted towards the forest. The rain hid whatever it was from him, relying only on the flashes of light and his eyes. Snarling he headed to the clearing where the wolf had originally wished to meet. Skidding to a halt in the mud, nearly slipping, Storm’s blue eyes narrowed to slits seeing something dark in the center of the clearing.
“You have come at last,” the voice came out as a growl as they didn't move but watched the white wolf before them. Their fur stood on end as Storm slowly approached the clearing.
“Why are you here?” Storm voice couldn't mask his anger as he stopped only a few feet from the other wolf. They were black, and able to blend into the shadows, their eyes were hazel. The ground was soggy as the rain continued to downpour, Storm could feel his paws wanting to slip on the soft ground.
Watching the black wolf run at him, Storm growled charging at the wolf. His nails and teeth collided into the black wolf’s side. Turning to face the black wolf, as they dug into the muddy earth to keep from sliding.
The black wolf came at Storm again, their teeth bared as Storm charged at them head. Twisting his body at the last second, pouncing onto Storm’s back, teeth sank into the white wolf’s pure white fur. Blood covered the wolf’s teeth as they shook their head back and forth furiously. The white wolf had howled in pain, and shook their body hard trying to get them off. Biting down harder to keep from falling off, the white wolf’s thrashing had helped him tear deeper into the wolf’s neck.
Blinded by pain, Storm twisted his body, falling to the ground. Snapping at the black wolf that still held onto his neck. Lashing and snapping at the wolf, the black wolf missed stepped and Storm bit between the wolf's shoulder and side. Sinking his sharp teeth deep into the wolf, he was more skilled at fighting due to facing bears. Clamping down hard and pulling, Storm tried to get the wolf off him. The black wolf let go of his neck as they yelped in pain. Storm then threw the black wolf off of him before running to them and jumping. The black wolf had had rolled out of the way escaping Storms snapping jaws, getting to his paws he snarled at Storm.
Picking up a far away howl, Storm froze in mid step, knowing exactly who had howled. The black wolf took advantage of the stunned wolf, pouncing onto the wolf once more. Digging his nails into Storm’s back about to snap his sharp teeth into the wolf below him. The wolf under him felt like they were about to fall, the black wolf snarled bracing for the fall. The white wolf had knelt forward, by the time the black wolf knew what was going on it was too late. Storm flopped sideways causing the black wolf to lose their balance. Getting to his paws, Storm glared at the wolf. Snarling as he towered over the fallen wolf.
“Get out of my territory,” Storm’s eyes narrowed as the black wolf slowly got to their paws tail tucked between their legs. Storm growled louder and gave chase to the black wolf, running through the forest. Heading to the outskirts of his domain, Storm stopped on the edge he then threw back his head and howled watching the black wolf disappear into the shadows.
Wincing in pain from his wounds, Storm slowly headed back towards the mountain. His white fur was caked in mud, blood, and soaked as it dripped down his side and face. Panting he put his head up to the sky howling to the pack, listening to the sound of the rain hitting the trees and ground. There was no howl back, worry and fear surged through his soaked hurt body. Limping he forced himself to run, to hurry back to the cave.
Nearing the mountain Storm’s vision became blurry, as he tried to make himself focus. The smell of blood was faint in the air due to the rain. Slowly approaching the cave and looking around, Storm noticed a body near the entrance. There was no mistaking the body, Storm knew right away who it was, Kira. Going to her side, he nudged her with his head ignoring the pain in his neck. Looking her body over, there were claw marks everywhere.
“Kira?” His voice was shaky as he looked back to her pale face, kneeling down next to her. His white fur barely touching her.
“Storm?” Her voice was raspy as she whimpered softly in pain, “I'm sorry..we..”
“Shh I'm here, what happened? Who did this?” Storm moved his paw gently rolling her onto her back. The wound in her chest was too great to heal on its own, he looked into Kira’s eyes as tears formed.
“You promised you'd be safe,” she whispered seeing the blood around his neck, her gold eyes looked into his sadly. Shaking her head she coughed up a little blood, “The said they were a prince, that weak demons don't need to come back home.” Her eyes closed as she felt around for Storm’s massive paw. Finding it she petted the wolf, “They had purple hair, and red eyes. This is one demon no one should follow.”
“He'll pay for what he's done,” Storm growled putting his head on her chest. He laid with her in the small drizzle, his blue eyes looking to her, “Don't leave me love, you're my world. This place won't be the same.”
“The wound is too great love, he attacked the whole pack alone,” she then put a hand on the wolf's cheek giving them a small smile, “live for me…”
“Kira?” His head jolted up hearing her last breath and her hand fell limp to the ground, “Kira don't go! Kira!” He whimpered looking around before looking back to the lifeless body at his paws. “Kira….” closing his eyes he looked towards the darkening sky and let out a mournful howl. His eyes stayed closed for sometime, tears weld up behind his eyelids. Putting his forehead to hers, Storm curled up around her, his body cradling her close to him. Storm staid with her for hours, unable to pull himself away from her.
As the hours passed Storm still remained wrapped up around Kira. He didn't notice the black wolf walking up to him. Blue eyes shot open smelling the other wolf. Storm was ready to spring on them until he realized it was Damarious, his body was stiff from sleeping in one position for so long. Raising his head he watched Damarious.
“I'm sorry,” lowering his head in respect, Damarious looked from Storm then to who Storm had curled around, “If I came at the howl, who knows what may have-”
“I don't blame you, the times have changed. It's hard to trust anyone these days,” Wincing he slowly sat up careful not to disturb Kira’s body. “I'll bury the dead, and give what I claim to you.”
“Where are you going?” Damarious looked to Storm with worried eyes, the wolf before him looked to be in pretty bad shape.
“I have a demon to hunt and kill. They'll pay for killing the my only family,” Storms eyes looked to Damarious, “Do not try to stop me, or say I'm welcomed with you.”
“I would most likely feel the same way, rest while you can, bury the dead. You have time, there is no rush,” watching Storm sadly, he looked around, “Were you able to find out who had done this?”
“A vampire, and I'm going to kill them,” growling Storm's anger quickly rising, shaking his head he looked around them. He hadn't noticed the other few bodies on the ground. Closing his eyes he let out a slow painful howl towards the sky, followed shortly by Damarious who joined in.
When finished, Damarious looked back to Storm. Concern for the wolf showed in his eyes, “Where were you when the attack happened?”
“I was fighting a black wolf. Pretty sure they wanted to be pack leader due to how hard they fought to try and kill me. When I heard the howl I did all I could to get here,” Storm closed his eyes forcing his still injured body to move. Getting to his paws he looked to Damarious, “Take care, I have work to do.”
Watching Damarious leave, Storm got to work on burying the dead. His neck, back, and shoulders still hurt from the intruder’s attack, but it didn't stop him from digging the graves and burying the bodies. When done he headed into the caves to see if anyone was inside, finding no bodies only the smell of the vampire. Heading out of the mountain, he then headed out towards the forest. Limping he transformed back into his human self, putting a hand to his neck. It had reopened and the wound was deep. Growling softly he made his way slowly down the mountain, towards the humans and their cities. Holding his neck with one hand while stumbling through the woods. There was no sign of the wolf that had attacked him and no sign of the vampire that had attacked his pack.
Shivering from the cold and being wet from the rain, Storm looked around making sure he was going the right way. ‘I'm sorry Kira, I wish I had been there. If I was you may still be alive,’ gritting his teeth he leaned against a tree to catch his breath. The pack was gone, but Storm was still in shock and disbelieve that they were no longer around. ‘We should have left sooner, I let them down,’ angry with himself and the vampire, Stormed punched the tree he'd been leaning against. Chasing the tree to splinter and almost fall over.
Crouching down into a ball, and leaning against the splintered tree. Storm felt alone, it wasn't a feeling he had ever had to experience. The pack had always been with him, Kira had always been at his side. His blue eyes closed, shivering against the busted tree. The silence around him was defending, all he could hear was his own breathing. Mind racing and the urge to kill something, though what he wanted most was to see Kira smile again.
